Side Opening Blinds

From domestic open plan spaces that merge into the garden to covered walkways, bars and cafés, feature windows made from vast unbroken spans of glazing are an ever popular design trend creating fluid spaces that are adaptable to a range of functions.

Huge walls of glazed panels define spaces without obstructing natural light and often give the option to open up the space completely by removing the partition with bi-fold or sliding pocket doors. This offers the space huge versatility combining interior and exterior, preserving light and giving an open plan feel to the space.

These types of features are popular in commercial and domestic settings alike, bringing the garden into the home via an extension to the kitchen or dining room or to define breakout or dining spaces in office settings. Both of these scenarios can then be turned easily into event or hosting spaces when needed.

However, while letting in an abundance of natural light these large ‘curtain wall’ installations can suffer from heat gain and at times become too bright, especially when south facing in summer months. In these circumstances shading with blinds seems the natural solution, but many clients find it looks untidy when the space is open, breaking up the clean line appeal of the design.

This is where the Finnestra ‘Party Blind’ comes in. We can design and install a side opening zip roller blind that runs side to side. This minimises the visual impact while the external application maximises internal space.

The blind fully retracts out of sight when needed for a seamless look providing the maximum space for when the party starts.  It can also be part or fully opened for comfort shading/cooling whatever position the doors are in.

Through our partnership with Somfy, these electric blinds can be operated via a wall mounted Smoove switch, handheld remote, an app on your phone or tablet, your smart home device as well as the majority of BMS systems and smart devices on the market.
