Oversized Blinds

Whilst being stunning visual statements, large expanses of glass often come with issues surrounding heat gain and reflected light. This can make living and working within a building akin to living and working in a greenhouse.  Architects often engage Finnestra’s assistance to mitigate this effect.

Typically manufacturers in UK factories can make blinds up to 3m x 4m. While this is fine for most standard window applications, statement glazing is anything but standard. Limited by equipment and supply partners anything larger than this would typically be constructed as a patchwork of smaller blinds. Sometimes blinds constructed in this manner leave unsightly gaps causing unnecessary heat and light gain in a way that a single span of fabric will not.

At Finnestra, we specialise in working outside of the box creating large statement blinds for large statement glazing to fully support the visual appeal of the feature whilst still providing much needed shading in the warmer and brighter months.

One challenge is to shade a large expanse of structural bolted glass without a frame or bulkhead to fix to. In these cases we can custom build blinds fixed to the top structure of the building or install a purpose built steelwork at the top of the glazing. By building this structural support at the head of the blinds a tensioned and geared motorised blind can be built up to 6m wide with a 30m drop.
